Papallacta Recommended

The Termas de Papallacta offer the perfect quaint escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and are located just a few hours outside of Quito. Soaking in Papallacta’s mineral hot springs is a great way to unwind and relax with an amazing view of lush green hills and the soaring Andes Mountains.

Each hostel offers their own version of a hot spring that is really nothing more than a heated pool, so be sure to check out the Balneario (admission $7) thermal baths, with over 20 different gleaming pools with temperatures ranging from ice cold to super steaming hot. It is a small paradise of relaxation.

From the Exploratorio Nature Center (located near the springs), day hikes are available to explore the surrounding terrain and to see stunning views of mountains and volcanoes. Hikes range in difficulty and length in time and a guide is needed for the longer hikes. The guides are knowledgeable and friendly and charge a reasonable amount for their services.
